Splendid Oaks Makes Ice Cream Feel Like an Event
Splendid Oaks Chocolates & Ice Cream does not simply hand you eight scoops in paper cups. It presents them on a circular wooden tasting board engraved with the shop’s name, each miniature scoop seated neatly around the edge. The effect is closer to a carefully designed tasting experience than an ordinary trip for ice cream.
The presentation is almost Apple-like: clean, polished, restrained, and intentional. Even before tasting anything, the shop communicates that details matter.
Our eight-flavor sampler included chocolate, coffee, caramel, mint chocolate chip, Breakfast Club, Wookie Monster, passionfruit sorbet, and mango sorbet. The format is the attraction. Instead of committing to one oversized scoop, you can move from creamy chocolate to bright tropical fruit, compare flavors, revisit favorites, and discover something you would never have ordered alone.
Wookie Monster delivered the biggest surprise. Despite its playful name, it produced an unexpected flavor memory: something remarkably close to banana pudding. Creamy, comforting, and familiar, it tasted like a childhood dessert had wandered into an ice-cream shop wearing a monster costume.
Breakfast Club was another standout. Rich, distinctive, and immediately memorable, it was one of those flavors that makes you stop talking long enough to take a second bite and verify what just happened.
The fruit sorbets provided a sharp contrast to the heavier flavors. Mango was sunny and refreshing, while passionfruit brought enough acidity to wake the palate back up after the chocolate, coffee, and caramel. This is exactly why the sampler works: every miniature scoop changes the conversation.
At $14 for eight mini scoops, one board is easily shareable. Two people can divide it four-and-four for $7 each, which may be the smartest way to experience Splendid Oaks after lunch or dinner. Four mini scoops give each person variety without requiring anyone to leave feeling like a parade balloon. We learned that lesson after ordering two boards and departing downtown with the unmistakable posture of satisfied pumpkins.
Then there are the chocolates. They are displayed behind glass like small pieces of jewelry and packaged in a navy-and-gold box that feels more like a luxury gift than a casual candy purchase. Our four-piece box contained coconut, bourbon caramel, apple pie, and Ghana 68%, with a seasonal pumpkin chocolate offered separately. Their taste test is still pending, but visually, Splendid Oaks understands theater. The box, colors, shapes, and individual compartments make opening four chocolates feel ceremonial.
The chocolates may be the shop’s formal attire, but the ice-cream sampler is its personality. It is playful, generous, beautifully presented, and built for sharing.
The order: One eight-flavor sampler for two.
The mandatory flavors: Wookie Monster and Breakfast Club.
The verdict: Splendid Oaks turns an ordinary ice-cream stop into a small tasting event—and gives you a very good reason to return.
