Look, I tend to hand out 4 and 5 star reviews like candy. I wish I could give a 4.5.
If you’re looking for a spacious, clean, and quiet room, this hotel is great. Book it; you probably won’t regret it.
The service was very good. Friendly if a bit forgettable. They cleaned the room during our stay and were a little stingy with the towels and didn’t empty all the garbages, but that’s pretty minor.
PROS:
Location. I like being on the other side of the River. It’s quieter but still close to Magnolia, downtown, and Baylor.
New. Big room and clean. Same with the lobby and hallways.
Quiet. It was dead when we arrived. Packed with athletes from the Ironman by the time we left. No matter, it was very quiet on our floor either way.
Bathroom fan! I hate it when bathrooms don’t have a fan. This one sounded like a Hoover and I loved it.
Shower/no tub. Tubs are gross, so I like that the bathroom had a walk-in shower.
CONS:
No complementary breakfast. I’m actually okay with that. Even places that do a complementary breakfast well can rarely keep it up for long (I’m looking at you, La Quinta!). Better no breakfast than a crappy one.
Blinking lights on the fire suppression system. They were right over the bed and distracting at night. Slept anyway, but a nuisance nonetheless.
SLOW shower head. You’ll see. If you’re in a rush, don’t plan on showering quickly. Also the shower door was misaligned so water got all over the floor.
Again, it was a great stay. No real complaints.
If you notice things like finish carpentry, this—like all new hotels—will drive you a little nuts. It’s amazing that a culture that built the Golden Gate Bridge is the same culture that puts up a hotel in months with beads of caulk that look like they were done by second graders and shower doors that don’t close properly. You’d think you wouldn’t notice, but you’re in that shower for a long time waiting for that shower head to do its job!
Enjoy the stay. I’ll stay again the next time I’m in town.
